Ethical dilemmas can be found all around us, but as technology develops one area of pressing concern are our computers. Go to the following examples of ethical dilemmas that deal with computer use: www.library.illinois.edu/uni/computerlit/scenarios.htmlChoose 5 scenarios and then answer the following (also found at the top of the page), for each of the scenarios you chose. Describe the underlying netiquette/ethics issue(s) in each scenario. What is your opinion of the behaviors involved? What equitable solutions can you suggest? Describe a parallel situation in which computers are NOT involved. Due by Wed, Mar 11, at 11:59pm.

For the first scenario, she shouldnt have opened her email at all, let alone she was sending emails cia her friend's email, that is attackong her privacy and personal space. The second scenario, wasn't as ethically bad as the first, although he shouldnt have sent it through the school's server. For the third scenario, what abner is doing is what he's supposed to do, he is defending his point of view and that is his right. 4th scenario, what that students are doing is wrong and they are abusing the school's server for own use and publishing unethical contents in the lyrics and that is ethically wrong.

First scenario, she shouldnt have opened her email whatsoever, without taking into consideration she was sending messages cia her companion's email, that is attackong her security and individual space. second scenario, wasn't as morally terrible as the initially, in spite of the fact that he shouldnt have sent it through the school's server. third scenario, what abner is doing is what he should do, he is protecting his perspective and that is his privilege. fourth scenario, what that understudies are doing isn't right and they are mishandling the school's server for own utilization and distributed deceptive substance in the verses and that is morally off-base.

first scenario: Privacy is a major issue that people have problems respecting. In this case trish should have logged off. A similar situation would be spreading private letters or reading diaries. Invading privacy is a negative aspect of the technological age because people deserve to keep secrets, what trish is doing is invading privacy and causing quarrel.
3rd scenario: In my opinion, internet debates are useless and pointless, they reach to no conclusion and only take up time and energy. A situation without computers would be debating.
6th scenario: Privacy is a major issue that people have problems respecting. A similar situation would be spreading private letters or reading diaries. Invading privacy is a negative aspect of the technological age because people deserve to keep secrets, invading privacy causes insecurities which can lead to greater psychological problems.
8th scenario: Its fine if the teacher is not present, because then they would be discussing their opinions. Ig the teacher were present however then it would be wrong. An example without a computer would be yelling out that a teacher sucks in class or having a group discussion.
10th scenario:
Privacy is a major issue that people have problems respecting. A similar situation would be spreading private letters or reading diaries. Invading privacy is a negative aspect of the technological age because people deserve to keep secrets, invading privacy causes insecurities which can lead to greater psychological problems.

1. In this situation, a person abused a person by taking advantage of the account being accessible, this is a violation of privacy and the person is harming other people as well as the person whom had the account abused. One solution is to the websites should log off after a certain time of being unused to prevent people later on from taking advantage. A similar instance is when instead of an account, an accessible car is stolen.
2. In this instance, a student invites people to a party via email. the school, seeing this as inappropriate, called the boy in for a meeting. I think that since the parents had no idea about the party, the school's action is justified as they are preventing a person from potentially abusing someone else's property without their conscent. A non- computer situation would be identical, except with mail instead of email and the school just happened to know about it because it went through their school.
3. In this situation, abner is being attacked by enemies in a forum. He responds by being equally mean. This in my opinion is immoral, and a solution would be for the sites to not allow any innapropriate language. A non-computer situation would be with bullies in school.
4. In this situation, Sharon and Timmy are putting obscene content on the school's server, which the school takes down. In my view, this is completely justified and Sharon and Timmy should not do this. This act doesn't violate freedom of soeech as well, because there is no talking involved and it is portraying obscene content.A non-computer related incident would involve protests.
5. In this situation, a person is not willing to give her password to her supervisor because it would allow him access to private information. In my view, this is justifiable as it is her account and the employers shouldn't have such inefficient a system. A non-computer situation would be access to a person's house because the vault is in a manager's house.

1) Jules forgets to log off, trish takes advantage. Ethically incorrect and immoral. The solution should be that the accounts immeadiatly log off after minutes of inactivity. Also, they should have stricter punishments for people like Trish. If we are in a different world where Jules forgot to lock her house's door when she went to work, and Trish came and saw that the door was opened, the same would happen but with larger consequences. Jules wouldn't like it if Trish came in and trashed her house and left. This is all a violation of privacy and is extremely immoral. 2) Amber's comments ignites flames in the hearts of her enemies. This causes what is called a comment war. First of all, the enemies that wrote back to Amber's comments are in the wrong as they are violating her right of free speech. She had the right to speak her mind without being harassed by other people. The solution to this problem is for comment sections to be supervised by the site itself. If it was real life, this comment war would have turned into a fist fight. 3)Tina's emails are being captured and sent to the whole class. They are embarrassing her and she would like to have them removed. What happened to her is morally unacceptable as it violates her rights of privacy. The solution to this problem is to make stricter punishments to the violators of Tina's privacy. In a parallel situation where computers are not used, this would not have happened, the vialators could've resorted to real stalking. 4)Sylvester has a website where he harasses women on the campus as well as post sexual content. This is a violation of the women's privacy as well as politically incorrect behavior. The solution to this problem is to have stricter punishments and punish Sylvester. IN a parallel universe, this wouldn't have happened, instead, Sylvester could have resulted in selling sexual toys and CDs outside the campus. 5)Brad has posted a controversial opinion about a teacher. This not only is offensive to the teacher, but it infuriates other people as it causes tensions. The solution to this should be that anyone who publicaly states his opinion about a person should be punished about what he said and the after effects that occurred from his statements. In a parallel situation, this could have been worse as they could've created riots and protested, and there would have been blood.

1st Senario: Jules forgot to log off her email account and her friend Trish sends messages to people on Jules's behalf. I find it strictly immoral to do so, as it is also incorrect to invade someone's privacy like that. What Trish should've done was to simply log off and continue using the computer after she logged off.
3rd senario: Abner's comments on the internet ignites flames into her enemies. I think it is quite pointless to engage in comment wars on the internet because they come to no conclusion what so ever. Here, the other part is the wrong doer. As is it Abner's freedom what post what she wants to post without being harassed unless it violates other people's rights.
4th Senario: Sharon and Timothy use the school's server to create a website dedicated to their favourite band, where they posted some of the lyrics. The school requests of them to take it down due to the inappropriate lyrics found in the website hosted by the school's server, so Sharon and Timothy object. I find it completely ethical for the school to take down such a website because it's on their server. If the kids want to keep their website, they should use another server that approves of the website's content.
10th senario: Paula and Ron used to date, they had quite personal emails. After their break up, Paula sends some of those emails to Ron's new girlfriend. And so, his new girlfriend doesn't talk to him anymore. It is really selfish of Paula to do such a thing, especially sending those emails to Ron's new girlfriend. I think it's really unethical and she should've just deleted those emails to respect each other's privacy.
11th senario: Sylvester has a website where he posts sexual content related to some girls at school and ties them to pornographic websites. The school tells him that they will inform his parents of his actions. Now, although what Sylvester is doing is totally wrong and immoral, the school has no right to intervene unless the girls bring the school in to the situation. I think that Sylvester's website should be taken down because of the sexual content about the school girls and leave the school out of this unless the girls asked the school to intervene.d senario
