USA: They wanted to stop the spread of Bolshevism and stop the Soviets to expand in south east Asia, because they thought it was like the domino theory, if Vietnam fell the rest will fall too, so they defended as much as they can. But at the end they lost big USSR: They wanted to spread there influence around the world and they saw Vietnam as a close and easy target. They lost a lot but not as much as the US, and they have won too. North Vietnamese: They wanted a one Vietnam where it doesn't matter what religion or where you are, they wanted to be unified under one leader South Vietnamese: They did want a one Vietnam but they did not want to have one leader under them, but in the same time they do not want to die. There objective was survival.
